Someone wrote a song about me! Oh my god! Someone named a song after me! Well, not me personally, but still!
Jennifer is a track on Everything Everything newest record Raw Data Feel. It’s not the first song with this title, of course, but the first by a band I love and the first time I actually hear my name in a song and like it.
It’s a bit melancholic, dreamy, just very beautiful. Of course I was going to paint something for this song, and the colour scheme had to match this blue feeling.

The song Jennifer “nearly jumped into the water” – and this is perhaps the most relatable line of the song for me -, so I decided to take it one step further and let Jennifer swim. As a former competitive swimmer with feet made for swimming more than walking, and generally a water type of person, I myself love swimming more than any other type of movement. Nothing makes me feel as free.
I have a lot of respect for water, because I understand its movements and force. It can be scary, but to me, swimming is the closest I will ever get to flying – not the airplane, but the fairy or bird kind of flying. Nothing is keeping you away from the ground except your strength (and air in your lungs, okay), the water is just making things easier than air.

The song Jennifer makes me feel at ease. I adore that the tracklist is on the album cover. The album also features other tracks like Software Greatman – as a software engineer, another thing I really relate to. This is one of my favourite albums by Everything Everything already and yes, the fact I’m on the album plays a massive part in that.
