As I Try Not To Fall Apart is one of the rare Spotify finds that catch my attention. It was on some playlist, and I think I’ve played it nearly every day since.
The song is, simply, beautiful. I adore the melodies. I don’t love a song this much very often. I had to paint something for it, and the “falling apart” thing gave me a good starting point. I used Corel Painter for this piece, which is very good at imitating traditional media. I haven’t used it very often, but creating this piece was very fun. It felt very much like putting paints down on a canvas, just letting the colours lead me from my original idea, creating new elements and completing the composition.
Before this song, I’ve only known one other song by White Lies*, which was To Lose My Life, popular and on German radio a lot quite a few years ago. Other than that, they’ve been pretty much off my radar, and I don’t know where to place them in terms of popularity. I’m really loving the new album, and think I have to look into more of their stuff. I’m excited for what other things they may have in store for me.
* I feel like the name is missing a “The”?
