Music · Tom Gregory

love come get me

This is an hommage to festivals, live music and warm summer nights. In the city close to the town I grew up in there’s a festival each year – no camping, but more than a week of live music outside on a bunch of different stages. At the start of 2020 I moved to the city, now living close enough to the area to walk there. Due to covid, this year was the first time I actually walked to a festival.

And it was wonderful! There wasn’t many artists that I actually knew, none that I would’ve done the usually necessary 2 or likely more hours of travel to go see them at a gig. But each of the four main days had at least one act that I truely loved.

My absolute favourite by a landslide was Tom Gregory. His songs are on the radio a lot, but I still didn’t expect much. To be honest, I kind of expected to listen to some soft songs, being a little uncomfortable in the evening heat. But I was very wrong. I cannot stress enough how much I enjoyed his performance. It made me dance in over 30°C. It surprised me. It was so fun.

When a gig is really good, it doesn’t feel like you’re there alone. No matter if you’re surrounded by fun or annoying strangers, the people on stage become your friends and the energy makes you feel at home. And I haven’t felt as at home at a gig as I have seeing Tom Gregory at this festival.

I enjoy festivals a lot, but I’m a little too settled to know for certain that I’ll get to do the whole camping thing again. I’m happy I got to do it for a bunch of summers. Now I enjoy being home with my significant other, and being able to spend a couple of days with him and some by myself, but always getting to be home with him in the evening, was the most wonderful experience.
