Recently Paramore have dropped a new album called This Is Why. The only other album by the band that I know really well is After Laughter, but after the new singles I already knew that the new record would make it into my playlists. By far my favourite track is Figure 8.

It reminds me of Pool, or Coldplay‘s Midnight, Nothing But Thieve’s I Need Air… There’s a certain atmosphere to these songs, something that captures a mindset, and emotion that cannot fully be described by words.
I can only attempt to convey that feeling in art. It feels serene and mysterious, usually blue like water or the night. In this case, the feeling of floating is very prominent, but through air rather than water. Floating in water is a wonderful feeling, but there is a certain pressure involved.

Paramore – Figure 8
Spinning in an endless figure eight
Figure 8 feels very free, ironically. It’s about being stuck in a loop, a twisted one. “No end and no beginning.” But the playful melodies give a feeling of ease, contrasting the lyrics and expressive vocals. It creates a dynamic of emotions.
I absolutely love the song, the feelings it creates and the images it paints in my head. The song gives me an escape to a quiet place, floating, free.
